Goodwill Industries is building a new location in the Heights, across Main Street from Walmart .Langlis Construction crews are pouring the foundation, and the expectation is to open the store by early fall, according to Shalene Sparling, retail director for Goodwill in Eastern Montana.
The store will be considerably smaller than the non-profit organization’s primary location at 951 S. 29th St. West. However, it will expand the organization’s mission in the community to help people gain employment, training, build skills and advance careers through the contributions and resale of used goods. The agency works in concert with Easter Seals which offers many programs for disabled and disadvantaged people. “We are always looking for more locations,” said Sparling.
Montana is part of a four-state division (including Idaho, Utah and Wyoming) whose operations are governed by a board of directors.
Goodwill Industries has helped people go to work since 1902. It is a network of 162 autonomous organizations throughout the US and Canada, with a presence in 13 other countries.
Local Goodwill organizations are innovative and sustainable social enterprises that create job training programs, employment placement and other community-based programs by selling donated clothing and household items in more than 3,200 stores collectively and online at shopgoodwill.com.
