A group of local employers are seeking other employers interested in participating in a Job Fair for seniors from high schools throughout Yellowstone County.
The focus of the group is to introduce high school seniors to possible career choices and possible opportunities to job shadow or arrange internships.
Todd Buchanan, owner of Buchanan Capital in Billings, is spearheading the effort which is aimed at helping employers find employees, in a very tight labor market. The group he has formed has no name or other affiliation or official structure, explained Buchanan, except to do what they can to help develop the local labor pool. After gathering a number of volunteer employers together, they concluded the best idea was to hold a job fair specifically for high school seniors that would introduce young people to all that is available to them, locally.
Buchanan said that they have enlisted the cooperation of School District 2, with plans to engage other school districts throughout the county. SD2 Superintendent Greg Upham has committed to the plan by agreeing to require that all seniors attend the job fair as part of their school curriculum. As he firms up details, Buchanan will be contacting other schools in the county to invite them.
With about 60 employers already on-board, the group hopes to get more companies interested in participating, eventually having at least 100 employers from private business, as well as non -profits and also from fields such as law enforcement.
April 21 has been set as the date for the job fair and it will probably be held at Metra Park.
