Gallatin County ranks as Montana’s most healthy county according to data compiled by SmartAsset based upon the life insurance market.

Other rankings in the top ten counties are Lewis and Clark, Ravalli, Missoula, Jefferson, Carbon, Stillwater, Teton, Flathead and Fergus.

Yellowstone County ranks 15th. Nationally Yellowstone ranks 1099th.  Percentage of smokers in Yellowstone County is 18.6 and obesity is 24.8 percent. Excessive drinking is 21.1 percent. Uninsured rate is 17.1 percent. Yellowstone County has 81 primary care physicians per 100,000 population.

Yellowstone County’s estimated count of “years of potential life lost” (YPLL) before the age of 75 per 100,000 population is 7,338.

Gallatin’s YPLL is 4,607. It’s rate of smokers is 47.7 percent; of obesity is 16.4 percent; excessive drinking, 25 percent, and uninsured 17 percent. Gallatin also has 81 physicians per 100,000 population.

Montana as a whole has an adult smoker rate of 19.1 percent, an adult obesity rate of 27.2 percent, and an excessive drinking rate of 19.7 percent. Its uninsured rate is 22 percent. The state’s YPLL is 8,583 and it has 71 primary care physicians per 100,000 population.
