In House Appropriations, Representative Julie Dooling, a Republican representing HD70, presented a bill to increase state employee pay. The specifics of the bill were negotiated by the public employees union and the Governor’s office.
“Legislators requested that the increase be a flat dollar amount instead of a percentage of salaries. A flat dollar amount targets middle and lower wage earners instead of the top end, a targeted increase” Representative Dooling said. “This bill also gives a small bump in per diem for in-state travel. These per diem amounts have not been increased for 26 years.”
House Bill 175, known at the “Pay Plan”, includes a .50 cent an hour increase in 2020 and .50 an hour increase in 2021. HB 175 is expected to pass with bipartisan support out of the House this week.
